Studies in New Guinea Land Tenure

This book brings together three studies originally published separately and now difficult to

obtain. They are reissued here mainly for the

use of students, for whom they have proved

their value over many years.

Republication in a single volume increases their

usefulness. Taken together they emphasize the

importance of the subject of land tenure. Read

as a whole, they underline its diversity.

Two areas are studied, Wogeo Island and

Garialand—see map on back cover. In each the

system of land tenure has many characteristic

features, in itself and in relation to the life and

the beliefs of the community.
